Abstract:
This lecture will kick off with two buzzwords – AI and 5G/6G – providing a brief introduction to these two fields and their latest developments, as well as the connections between them. The talk will use practical examples to discuss the intersection of these two disciplines: wireless AI, covering its progress and research methodologies. The lecture will also explore the importance of interdisciplinary research and pathways to engage in it, offering insights into the broad prospects and exploring possible international research frontiers and conducting world-class research in the future.
Bio:
Professor Shugong Xu is a professor in the Department of Intelligent Science and the Associate Vice President for Research and Impact and Executive Dean of XJTLU-JITRI Academy of Industrial Technology at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). Professor Xu holds a master's degree in Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Control and a PhD in Communication and Information Systems from Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST). He has a distinguished R&D and academic career of more than 30 years in the fields of wireless communication systems, pattern recognition, and machine intelligence. Half of his career time spans in top industrial research labs, including Sharp Labs of America, Huawei 2012 Labs and Intel Labs. Prof. Xu has led many national and international projects and is a recipient of numerous honours, including the National Innovation Leadership Talent Award (2013) and the First Prize in Shanghai's Natural Science Award (2023). He was named an IEEE Fellow in 2016 and won the Award for Advances in Communication from the IEEE Communication Society in 2017. Before joining XJTLU, Prof. Xu was a full professor at Shanghai University since 2016.? His research output includes over 80 patents issued in US/WO/CN, and more than 200 peer-reviewed research papers.. His current research interests include machine learning,pattern recognition, AI for science,? as well as wireless foundation models and ISAC in wireless communication systems, etc.
