Abstract
As XJTLU approaches its 20th year, we propose that our initiatives around 'Earth Week 2026', which launches on April 20, are not seen merely as a standalone event, but as the strategic prologue to the university's Anniversary celebrations. We intend that this event will bridge our history of growth over the first 20 years with a bold vision for the next two decades.
We envision a dual-track programme, firstly 'Retrospective', followed by 'Future-Forward'.
1. Retrospective focuses on an Exhibition celebrating 20 years of XJTLU’s evolving environmental stewardship, highlighting key milestones such as the 8-year legacy of Climathon, the establishment of the Outdoor Research and Teaching Space and the Community Garden as a research and teaching hubs, and the recent addition of ESG-focused modules and pathways. In addition, academic units will be able to present posters of their initiatives around the concept of sustainability in the areas of Learning and Teaching, Research, and Social Impact.
2. Future-Forward focuses on a Workshop, positioning XJTLU as a leader in educational innovation through the 'Living Labs' concept. This forum will showcase how our campus serves as a testbed for student-led research and next-generation technologies, demonstrating XJTLU's commitment to experiential learning that transcends the classroom.
While led by the Design and Science School, this initiative will act as a unifying platform for the university. We will renew our coalition with IBSS and other interested academic units, and partner with the UoL Sustainability team, Student Societies (HES, IBSS), CMO, XEC, and student Alumni groups. By showcasing XJTLU’s capacity to innovate for a sustainable world, this event will set a progressive and inspiring tone for the 20th Anniversary, defining our legacy as one of responsibility and forward-thinking leadership.
