The wind of July carries the scorching heat of midsummer, as well as the moment of farewell.
On 23 July, HSS's 2025 Undergraduate Graduation Reception was warmly held.
Graduates gathered with teachers, family members and friends to witness this important moment together, celebrating the successful completion of their studies and the beginning of a new journey in life.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr Mohsen Al Attar, Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching of HSS, delivered an opening speech, extending sincere congratulations and heartfelt pride to the graduates.
He stated that at HSS, every graduate is a spark of hope. Over the past few years, students have not only achieved outstanding academic results but also shown remarkable growth in compassion, teamwork, and critical thinking.
Afterwards, Dr Mohsen Al Attar, together with several faculty members, presented certificates to outstanding graduates who received the awards for “Best Overall Academic Performance” and “Best Final Year Project”, in recognition of their excellent performance and persistent efforts throughout their academic journey.
Next, three outstanding graduate representatives delivered speeches in turn.
They were Kehang Wang from English Studies, Hongyi Liu from English and Communication Studies, and Yuewen Wu from International Relations.
The three students shared their journeys from the initial confusion and uncertainty about their majors to gradually finding direction in life and achieving personal growth. They encouraged their fellow students to carry the critical thinking and humanistic care cultivated by the School, to bravely explore the world and forge their own paths.
At the end of the ceremony, the establishment of the Alumni Association of HSS was announced.
A total of four alumni representatives were awarded letters of appointment. Hui Yang from the Class of 2020 in TESOL will serve as President of HSS's Alumni Association. Xin Xu from the Class of 2012 in Economics (undergraduate) and the Class of 2018 in China Studies (PhD) will serve as Secretary-General. Shixuan Chen from the Class of 2020 in Communication Studies and Fanyu Meng from the Class of 2022 in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages will serve as Committee Members.
Afterwards, two alumni representatives, Shixuan Chen and Xin Xu, respectively delivered messages, offering sincere blessings and encouragement to the new graduates.
Dr Qingyang Sun, HSS Alumni Officer, also gave a message to the graduates:
“To the Class of 2025, may you face the opportunities and challenges in life without fear, carve out your own path, and stay true to your original aspiration even in times of confusion and uncertainty. We also hope you’ll come back to visit often, HSS will always be your home!”
