The department has wide-ranging research strengths, including sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics, language learning and teaching. The Department of Applied Linguistics co-hosts the Medical Humanities Research Group with the Department of Literature.
The Department also hosts a Corpus Linguistics Research Group , an English for Specific Purposes Reading Group.
