The department’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) provide a great opportunity for undergraduate students to gather hands-on research experience in international studies, allowing them practice research methods, engage with data first-hand, and develop organizational and leadership skills, and strengthen their research credentials.

In past projects, SURF students have developed surveys and questionnaires, conducted interviews, analyzed policy documents, and gathered open-source intelligence, developing their skills in quantitative and qualitative methods with the support of their project supervisors.

The Department aims to offer a SURF project each summer. The posters below showcase the results of these projects.
