Overview

The MRes Bioinformatics at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University prepares students for the complex demands of modern life science research through its multidisciplinary curriculum that integrates biology, computer science, applied mathematics, and statistics. The programme offers systematic training in computational biology, data science, artificial intelligence, and related areas. It focuses on developing students’ research thinking and methodological abilities.

The programme builds foundational knowledge before advancing to specialised research. The first semester covers core modules including genomics, proteomics, statistical genetics, machine learning, and relevant programming skills. In the second semester, experienced supervisors guide students’ participation in research projects, independent research, and academic writing, providing applied learning and strengthening scholarly writing skills.

Through theoretical and practical training, students will learn leading analytical methods and acquire the skills to use bioinformatics tools. The programme develops students’ core skills in academic research, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and other fields to hone innovation and leadership capabilities. Graduates will be ready to secure and excel in advanced research and management roles in research institutions, biopharmaceutical companies, and other organisations.
